English summary: While there are many studies on the individual writings of Richard of Saint Victor (1173), a basic overview of the different aspects of his entire work is still missing. This study aims at filling this gap. Its point of departure is Richard's main concern show man the path to the perfection of his existence. This path leads man, through the ever deepening awareness of being loved by God, to becoming himself someone who loves. To recognize God means to love him, and man recognizes God by the exposition of the gospel, by practicing virtue and finally by contemplatio. The ecstatic unification with God experienced by contemplatio makes man Christ-like in that he adopts Christ's renouncing, selfless love as a form of life. With that, man achieves the most essential property of God and thus attains the perfection of his existence as being made in the image of God. German description: Wahrend es an Einzelstudien zum Werk Richards von Saint-Victor (+1173) nicht mangelt, vermisst man eine grundlegende Zusammenschau der verschiedenen Themenbereiche. Das vorliegende Buch hat zum Ziel, dieses Desiderat zu erfullen. Ausgangspunkt ist dafur Richards Grundanliegen, den Menschen einen Weg zur Vollendung ihrer Existenz zu weisen. Dieser Weg besteht darin, dass der Mensch durch die immer tiefere Erkenntnis, von Gott geliebt zu sein, immer mehr selbst zum Liebenden wird. Gott zu erkennen heiat, ihn zu lieben, und der Mensch erkennt Gott durch die Auslegung der Heiligen Schrift, die Auspragung der Tugenden und letztlich die Ausubung der contemplatio. Die in der contemplatio erfahrene ekstatische Einung mit Gott macht den Menschen christusformig, d.h. er ubernimmt wie Christus die sich entauaernde, selbstlose Liebe als Lebensform.
