b sides is a poetry chapbook containing 41 poems. In 2020, the author wrote hundreds of song lyrics for a collective songwriting project online. Facing multiple lockdowns on the wrong side of an international border from home, she began restacking those short lyrics into the first 40 poems in this book. The poems are intended to take the shape of audio waveforms, a visual representation of sound in a time of global silence. The final poem was written later, as a memory of the moment, and of daily walks past the shuttered music hall. Part pandemic memoir, part poetry experiment, b sides deals with love and loneliness, nature and loss, and the joy that can be found in the smallest of things. Less
