Narrated in a piercing style, this novel tells of a famous young boy who is found in late September of 1797 in the forests of French Languedoc by three hunters and who goes on to frighten and mesmerize all of France. This so-called wild child wanders the woods, completely naked and hairy, having adopted the manners of an animal. Once captured, he begins his journey through France, visiting both mental institutions and refined lounges, where he becomes little more than a sideshow attraction.
