July 12, 1939: Perry Nelson is driving along the palisades when his car careens off the road and over a bluff. He awakes in a strange, snowy mountain landscape, where a fur clad woman rescues him from the bitter cold. She soon reveals that the year is 2086. After his shock subsides, Perry explores how the world has changed over the last 150 years. But this education brings with it inescapable truths, and the customs of the new day continually test Perry's mental and emotional resolve. Yet it is precisely his knowledge of a bygone era that will serve him best as he leads his peers towards a new horizon they never imagined.
