These cities often support the larger ones with their industrial zones, logistics infrastructure, and aff ordable housing. India has over 50 cities with a population of 1 million or more that do not quality as megacities. This publication asserts that in order for smaller and medium-sized cities to sustain growth and develop, there needs to be greater emphasis on the quality of planning and institutions, as well as financing for infrastructure.
