Bond is sent in pursuit of Mr Big, a villain who has links to the American criminal network, the world of voodoo and SMERSH and all things hostile to the West. Intellectually brilliant, Mr Big has a 'great football of a head, twice the normal size and very nearly round. His skin is grey-black, taut and shining like the face of a week-old corpse in the river.' Bond is in danger of being outwitted but, and with the assistance of the beautiful Solitaire, survives the hungry sharks and barracudas to destroy the power-crazed Mr Big and his grossly flashy yacht.
