Ranger is a time-traveling golden retriever with search-and-rescue training. In this adventure, he goes to San Francisco and meets Lily Chen, who was sent from China to work as a servant but dreams of becoming a doctor.
When the Great Earthquake hits, Ranger helps Lily flee the collapsing mission house she lives in. Then they help another girl, May Wong, save her brother from fallen rubble. Ranger and his new friends try to make their way through the ruined city, but can they escape crumbling buildings and raging fires, all while facing anti-Chinese discrimination
