Sammy Earl Is On The TrainAs usual, Sammy Earl is spending his summer on the family's farm in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his loving grandparents. As long as he could remember, he had been spending the three months of summer on their farm. The farm was their family's retreat from the busy city lifestyle. There was endless fresh air, open space, births of horses, cows, chickens, and occasionally a prize winning pig. The first night in his old bedroom, Sammy Earl finds himself standing on top of a speeding train, terrified of falling off and dying! After almost a week of having the same vivid speeding train nightmares, Sammy must somehow decide if he would risk telling his grandparents. Would his Grandfather, 'Grands', tell his parents that he was having baby dreams? Or worse, would he just have to suffer having the same nightmare every single night for the rest of his life? Sammy was nine, but mostly almost 10 years old. He was certain that these nightmares were not him wanting to sleep at the foot of the very large bed, with his Grands and Nana. The dreams were terrifying. He wasn't able to wake up, or able to get off the train. He could see himself in his pajamas on the top of the fast moving train. These dreams were so real to him, he could even feel strong winds and rains trying to blow him off the train. But, if Sammy sought help from his Grands, he would have to endure being mocked with, boy, you must be the biggest baby I've ever seen. Even worse, after he told his parents, there would be no help provided to a baby who was having nightmares about trains. Sammy had to do something to stop the nightmares, even if it meant he would have to figure out how to Never go to sleep again. It was settled, he would have to call his father! Less
