Typical of the many mod brass albums of the day, {|Sound of the Times|} features many of the same people, tunes, ideas, sounds, and arrangements as other albums. {|I'm Coming Home Cindy|} is a great one arranged by {|Dick Behrke|} of {|King Richard|}'s {|Fluegel Knights|} fame. {|A Sign of the Times|} is one of several {|Bobby Scott|} arrangements generally leaning more toward the subtler {|Mancini|} sound than brass impact. But {|Batman Theme|} is all bombast, and at under a minute and a half (still too long for this one, some might say) it should be. With a huge, thunderous beat and brass spreading everywhere like batwings, this creative arrangement flies right past the discotheque and heavy listening. {|Why Not?|} ends the other side with some jangly, sitar-esque guitar, as if someone felt it important to acknowledge {|Gabor Szabo|} or at least psychedelia. The {|Elgart|}'s final au go-go effort tries new things and has its moments. ~ Tony Wilds Less
