William Ralston Shedden-Ralston (1828-1889) was a British folklorist and writer who became famous as a translator from Russia. He was in Russia a number of times where he made friends with major Russian writers of those times such as Turgenev and Afanasyev.

This classical Russian fairy-tale that was collected and translated by William Ralston Shedden-Ralston. The storyline focuses on the king's daughter who turned out to be a witch. Before her sudden death daughter asked her father for the priest's son to read the psalter over her dead body three nights running. The Priest's son knew that these incoming three nights will be uneasy to survive because he was the only one who could feel that ominous tension in the church.
