When Clara marries wealthy widower Adrian Whitmore, she believes she is stepping into a new life of security, elegance, and quiet happiness. The Whitmore estate is everything she imagined — grand halls, perfect gardens, and a life most people only dream about.
But something inside the house feels wrong.
Nothing belonging to Adrian’s late wife has been moved. Her clothes still hang in the closet. Her photographs still fill the walls. Even the staff sometimes call Clara by the wrong name.
At first, Clara thinks it is only grief.
Then she discovers a locked room hidden in the house. Inside are dozens of video diaries recorded by the first wife — a woman who slowly became convinced that her husband was studying her, correcting her, and shaping her into someone else.
As Clara watches the recordings, she begins to notice something terrifying.
The same changes Adrian once demanded from his first wife… he is now asking from her.
And the more Clara learns about the accident that killed the woman before her, the more she begins to wonder:
Was she chosen to start a new life?
Or was she chosen to replace someone?
