The sequel to Plague Ship, Voodoo Planet is the classic 1950’s “golden age” science fiction thriller of three crew members from The Solar Queen spaceship who are persuaded to go on a hunting expedition on a Khatka, a planet colonized by people from Africa. Dane, Medic Tau, and Captain Jellico soon run up against Lumbrilo, a local shaman, who has strong reasons for not wanting these interlopers to explore the jungle. After their flat, fast-moving vehicle crashes in the wild, the spacemen and their local hosts soon become the targets of bizarre attacks from wildlife where they find themselves caught in a battle between the forces of reason and the powers of Khatka's mind-controlling wizard. "Dane slid his blade out surreptitiously, setting its point against the palm of his hand and jabbing painfully; but the terrible creature continued to advance.... There was no blurring of its lines...." Dane Thorson of the space-ship Solar Queen knew there was only one way to win out over this hideous thing--a battle to the end between his rational mind and the hypnotic witchcraft of Lumbrilo, the mental wizard of the planet Khatka. ** Less
